What happened to John Wade Wagner?

On Saturday, February 17, 1968, approximately at 8 p.m., 16-year-old John dropped his younger brother off at a school dance in Monroe City, Monroe County, Missouri, agreeing to return later to pick him up. However, when the dance ended, Mark waited for John, only for his big brother to never show up.

John was born on June 27, 1951, to parents Luther and Anne and has an older sister, Peggy, and his younger brother, Mark. At the time of his disappearance, the family lived about 12 miles from Monroe City. John was 5'9" and weighed 130 lbs. He had blue eyes, brown hair, and a “tic-tac-toe”-shaped scar on his abdomen. John was also last seen wearing tan-colored jeans, a tan/orange-colored plaid shirt, and brown dress shoes.

The day after he was last seen, Sunday, February 18, the missing boy’s pickup truck was discovered abandoned in an alley off Main Street in the city. Upon searching his vehicle, only his coat, keys, and gloves were found inside. Also, around this time, the sheriff on the case reportedly said that John was last seen at an ice cream parlor
