It’s because of you
By Traci Wile, OFA Director of Community Engagement
For more than a year now, we’ve had one goal: To take back the House of Representatives and make sure that there is a check on this administration’s harmful policies. And last week, we did it — we shifted the balance of power in our government — and we did it together.
Let’s be clear — it is because of all of your hard work that this was possible. This was an incredibly important moment for our democracy and you refused to sit on the sidelines, you rejected cynicism, and you never gave up hope.
Yes, there were some races we did not win—and those hurt—but there were broad victories across the country in state houses, governor’s races, and key ballot initiatives that are going to make a real difference in people’s lives. We saw clear proof that new voters were engaged and huge swaths of the country took concrete steps towards a stronger, more participatory democracy.
We know these past few weeks, months, and years have been tough. So in moments like these, it’s more important than ever to celebrate the victories and remember that change doesn’t always come down from the highest levels in Washington, D.C. — it comes from people like you, putting in the hard work day in and day out in your community.
So this week, let’s celebrate together knowing that we now have a lot more leaders in Congress and our local governments who will fight alongside us for the issues we all care about and the values we all believe in.
OFA volunteers, organizers, and leaders inspired us every day through this fight. Not only did you step up to knock doors and make phone calls, but you also encouraged, coached, and trained many others to join you — you built relationships that will continue well beyond this year.
We are deeply grateful for each and every one of you and what you bring to your work, your teams, and your communities. We cannot thank you enough for your tireless passion and commitment.
Now, take a breather, you’ve earned it.
It is, and always has been, our honor to be part of this OFA family with you.
