a sonnet -

the middle of the second month grows nigh
and thoughts of love swirl ‘round the winter air
I think upon how fortunate am I
to have and hold the one for whom I care

for it was she who sought me out and thus
a lonely heart did leap and shout with glee
by her shear will did ‘we’ become an ‘us’
two loves, two friends, two persons meant to be

a smile that gleams and warms an aging heart
and eyes that shine so bright they pierce my soul
with her I cannot fathom time apart
it’s only hand in hand that I’m made whole

and so to her I say ‘I love you so’
and hope within her own heart love does grow
