Tales from the school locker

Many students, particularly those from American schools where they are predominant, have some kind of memory involving the hallway or gym locker.

Even if you could practically not use much of it as you have your own backpack to carry your things in some students just couldn’t resist hanging out or passing by the hallway lockers — bullies on the prowl for their next victims, pranksters hiding behind locker rows to trip the unsuspecting for a laugh, jocks playing around like the hallway were an extension of the football field, girlfriends meeting one another after class to organise their locker and talk about boys, the latest school gossip, trends or where the next party will be.

I remember having pleasant memories of it when I used to receive a note taped to my locker door from a crush in high school. This inspired me to decorate my locker with pictures of him and my other “inspirations”.

Many of my classmates always seemed to have trouble with it when they constantly forgot its combination.

Occasionally one locker would bang from having an unfortunate lad shoved against it.

One time, and thankfully this never happened in our school at the time, I heard of one girl from another school who got the scare of her life when she found a tiny live snake upon opening her locker.

Other students take it upon themselves to express their artistic side by ‘decorating’ their own or other students’ lockers with graffiti from markers and spray paint.

Granted, a locker is a very convenient facility that schools provide intended for students not to lug too much stuff around while in school, but others also tend to abuse it for reasons entirely their own. Whatever the role lockers have played in your early student life, the important thing is to keep it neat and organised for your own benefit.
