Miami Dade College’s forward-thinking educational approaches to meeting the tech world’s evolving demands were on full display at eMerge Americas 2019. MDC’s booth was visited by attendees who were impressed by the College’s wide range of degree pathways and innovative workforce programs.

Thousands engaged with interactive displays highlighting the College’s programs in augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), cybersecurity, engineering, and electric car technology. Students and faculty gave demonstrations and participated on thought-provoking panels.

MDC’s Miami Animation & Gaming International Complex (MAGIC), already offering the first AR/VR academic program in the state of Florida, was abuzz with people trying out VR goggles, checking out the upcoming Berlin Wall, an Augmented Reality Simulation app, and navigating through the student-created Siberia: The Frozen Front video game.

The Cybersecurity Center of the Americas had a version of its state-of-the-art Cyber Range available for attendees to experience its evolving, real-time cyber attacks. The Makers Lab’s 3D printers brought onsite creations to life and displayed its “learning by doing” capabilities, highlighting MDC’s commitment to innovation and nurturing the creative spark that drives projects to fruition.

The College’s new partnership with electric car giant Tesla sparked interest from all attendees. Tesla START, a 12-week technical training program launching in fall 2019, is the only program of its kind in the Southeast. Attendees enjoyed checking out the Tesla Model X SUV on-site while learning about a new training facility being built to Tesla specifications at MDC, West Campus.

Numerous panels focused on exchanging ideas and discussing the complex applications of technology. MDC presented and moderated panels on women reshaping tech and business through leadership, cybersecurity, and how AI, the Internet of Things and other technologies are helping transform health care in developed and emerging markets.

eMerge Americas 2019 showcased the College’s role in preparing South Florida, a crossroads of the Americas, for the future. MDC is ready to train the workforce on any tech innovations that loom on the horizon.
