Building the next generation of cloud computing is not a simple task. HiveNet aims to be the first fully functional distributed cloud computing network. This means that we want to give computer owners anywhere in the world the chance to utilize their idle computer times and securely rent them out to paying customers.

Since we had the initial vision, more than one and a half years have passed and we were very busy to fill the vision with real progress. After evaluating and defining the relevant business requirements, both from the perspective of the customers and the computer owners, we researched how these requirements can be technically realized.

Consequently, we started with the development of the HiveNet prototype, which we developed in three major steps. The third and current step already includes the following key features:

  • customer tasks are distributed to providers anywhere around the world
  • tasks are decentrally computed on provider computers
  • after a task is finished, the results are automatically uploaded and available to the customer
  • providers are rewarded with test coins
  • test coins are delivered via a dedicated blockchain
  • is compatible with desktop and notebook computers
  • is compatible with standard operating systems
    (Windows 7/8.1/10, macOS)

These points represent the most important and basic key features of a distributed cloud computing network and prove the HiveNet’s general feasibility. Therefore, we consider the HiveNet prototype a big success and a major milestone towards disrupting the multi-billion-dollar cloud computing industry.

Our next developmental actions are now focusing on the implementation of several security aspects, which we deem necessary, before we can launch an alpha version for public testing. The public testing of the alpha version will be the next major step in the HiveNet development and will provide the general public with the opportunity to get an idea of how distributed cloud computing actually feels. We on the other hand are looking forward to this testing to receive valuable feedback from the community.
