What is ERC725 Alliance?

ERC725 alliance is an initiative to promote adoption of ERC725, supported by developers and projects.

What is ERC725?

ERC725 is an open standard for blockchain identity proposed by Fabian Vogelsteller, creator of ERC20, Mist, web3.js.

The following describes standard functions for a unique identity for humans, groups, objects and machines.
This identity can hold keys to sign actions (transactions, documents, logins, access, etc), and claims, which are attested from third parties (issuers) and self attested (#ERC735), as well as a proxy function to act directly on the blockchain.

Why is this significant?

ERC 725 paves the way for a standard for self-sovereign identity management and its interactions with the outside world. Having a open standard that is widely adopted will greatly benefit the blockchain ecosystem. DApps and blockchain services will be able to leverage and contribute to shared, trusted identities and reputations. There is no need to undergo verification processes across different services and no reliance on a centralized authority.

Much like how ERC 20 standard allows for an interoperable token system on Ethereum, ERC 725 enables for a interoperability decentralized identity system.

Because of the reasons above, Rate3 Cross-Chain Identity Protocol will be ERC 725/735 compliant.
