Block72 X DoraHacks — Boston
Last week Block72 unveiled our strategic partnership with one of the World’s most well-known, fast-growing and industry-respected hackathons — DoraHacks.
Following the news, over the weekend we held our first event together which was undoubtedly a success. DoraHacks Global Hackathon Series (GHS) arrived at its first stop in Boston from September 22nd to September 23rd, 2018. The event was held in coordination with the MIT China Venture Summit and united 99 world-class hackers, utilized the most sophisticated blockchain technology to develop the most intense brainstorms, and deployed convincing work to solve the most updated and critical problems in all industries.
As one of the co-hosts, Block72 CEO Mike Chen gave a speech to introduce GBIC and Block72 during the hackathon opening ceremony in which he explained our mission and reasoning for this strategic partnership. This alliance has given us a chance to provide more opportunities for the developer community, which has been a goal of ours for a long time. As we stated in our company post, we believe in investing in and working with talent to further the development of this fast-paced and ever-changing industry.
Later in the day, one of GBIC Partners — Richard Lee hosted a workshop on the topic of “Fundamentals of ICO.” This workshop earned the title of one of the most popular workshops in the Hackathon. During the workshop, Richard explained fundamentals of ICO to developers which included blockchain revolution, ICO process, industry standards and overall cryptocurrency market.
At the end of the event, Mike Chen and Richard Lee served as judges during the hackathon’s Demo Fair, in which the contestants had the opportunity to win $10,000 bonus pool equivalent in digital currency as well as a surprise prize. Contestants who were selected were awarded the Excellent Hacker Prize of Brainstorm Creative Hacker and got full/partial reimbursement of travel expenses.
Overall the event was a 24-hour marathon filled with many educational workshops, hacking sessions, great food and a performance by a band from Berklee College of Music.
