Keep it Simple

Hello from a happy office. It’s Friday, and we just had Nando’s for lunch. Smiles all round! 😊

We’ve been a man down this week — Get well soon Ben! — but things have been moving along nicely.

We spent a lot of time working on the player, and how it can be customised on different Monograms. We think customisation will be a key feature, and we’re only scratching the surface on 1.0. There are many possibilities when it comes to customisation such as colour, type and some day following in MOO’s footsteps offering design themes. We’re excited to see how creative people will get with their Monograms.

For launch, we’re keeping thing simple: You’ll be able to change the colour of your Monogram, visible on your title splash and all text cards.

We sat down as a team this week to define the behaviours of the player. How do we move around? What do the transitions look like? Can we expand and zoom images? How do we exit from full size views? Even the small details need thought: what movements looks like on cards at the end of a row.

We decided a good precedent to follow would be the way the iPhone’s Camera Roll behaves. Since a lot of people are used to these interactions, it makes sense to do something similar.

The following show how we’re looking to implement expanding a single image, zooming, and exiting back to the grid.

Tap to expand an image
Pinch or double tap to zoom in / out
Flick away to exit

We also spent a chunk of this week continuing to work on the explainer video for Monogram. We sat down to storyboard the story we want to tell. It was really productive, and we’re hoping to start work on that very soon. Exciting!

See you next week!

👋
