To our dearest Motherland,

We have spent our whole lives embraced in the caring warmth of your humidity. Within your care we never went hungry, for you always provided breeding grounds for the freshest, ripest produce. We never went ill, for you were always equipped with the suitable remedies for our ailments.

We have always admired your beauty and strength. Throughout the years you have withstood the mightiest of conquerors and have given birth to generations of uniquely talented heroes. However, we regret to admit that we have failed to uphold the beauty of your name. We failed to take care of you as you have taken care of us, and now the cancer of our disorderly society has breached every inch of your physique. It has made you reek with the odor of our ignorance and incompetence to be the children you deserve us to be.

Today, we ask for your forgiveness. We ask that you may pardon the mistakes of our past generations as we attempt to correct them. Although it may take quite some time, we will do what we need to repair what we have left, for we are forever indebted to you. No amount of essays, letters or poems can make up for the pain and suffering you were forced to endure as a result of our petty foolishness.

From here onward, we will do our best as your children, to heal your bleeding heart. We vow to care more, know more and to do more. We are blessed enough for you to have nurtured us. Therefore, it is now our turn to prove ourselves worthy of your undying care and solace as our country. We will fight for what is right to uplift the beauty of your soul once again.

Inay,

We love you.
We thank you.
We are sorry.

Happy Mother’s Day, Inang Bayan.

With love,

Your children
