Today marks the 50th annual commemoration of EARTH DAY. In light of all the distressing events that have happened in this year so far, we must not forget one of the biggest issues our world faces today: its deterioration.

Deforestation, ignorance to pollution, and capturing wild animals as pets or food disrupts ecosystems that are built to ensure environmental stability. If we continue to turn a blind eye to the destruction of our planet, we place ourselves in a position more vulnerable to developing more diseases in the coming future.

The pandemic we are facing today is NOT the Earth’s way of healing, but it is instead a clear representation of our detachment as a species. People would rather see millions of others perish and suffer than to modify the economic and capitalistic society we live in. This outbreak is not the answer to our environmental solutions; the only way we will truly see nature heal is if we develop an economic system that is founded on sustainable and ethical practices collectively agreed on by the government and its citizens. #EarthDay2020
