Doodles using Tayasui Sketches (free) & Sketches Pro

I’m as surprised as anyone that my New Year resolution to draw a doodle a day (15 minutes per doodle) is intact as we head to the mid-point of 2017. Up until now, I’ve been happily using the Procreate app with an Apple Pencil on a 9.7-inch iPad Pro. However, I spent a bit of time traveling recently and didn’t want to carry anything larger than an iPad mini 4. That eliminated the possibility of using the Apple Pencil while traveling. On a trip earlier in May, I had a difficult time using a passive capacity stylus with Procreate. So, in the time honored tradition of all talentless people, I blamed the tool :-).

So, I downloaded the free Tayasui Sketches app and used it with the capacitive stylus on the first day of travel (IMG_0131). I discovered that this free version doesn’t support layers and tried to make an in-app purchase to upgrade it. However, I could not do so. So, I went back to the App Store to pay my $4.99 for the separate Tayasui Sketches Pro version and discovered it could not see the doodle made using the free version. So, this doodle was left in its 3-minute draft doodle form.

I spent the next couple five days learning to use the app in the 15 to 20 minutes alloted for the daily doodles. Day 2 (IMG_0133) is inspired by the purchase of a LEGO Brick Headz toy. That’s a Dutch Rabbit as a Brick Headz. Day 3 (IMG_136) was inspired by a visit to the Disney Family Museum and rediscovering Walt Disney’s Oswald the Rabbit which preceded Mickey Mouse. This doodle supposes what a Dutch Rabbit inspired version might have bene. Day 3 (IMG_137) was inspired by a visit the Charles M. Schulz Museum and imagines what Snoopy might have been like had Schulz been inspired by a rabbit instead of a beagle. Day 4’s doodle (IMG_139) was was inspired by a visit to the Googleplex in Mountain View. That’s an Android rabbit. The Day 5 doodle (IMG_140) was inspired by a visit to the Jelly Belly Factory. The final doodle (IMG_180) was done after returning home and trying to use the Sketches Pro app on a 9.7-inch iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil (instead of Procreate with the Pencil). This doodle acknowledges National Donut Day on June 2.

I prefer Procreate to Sketches Pro. However, Sketches Pro has enough interesting qualities to continue learning to use it. The next test will be to recharge the Pencil by 53 Bluetooth stylus that has been sitting around unused and test it with Sketches Pro.
