Star Trek Voyager’s thumb drive pre-dates 1st actual USB thumb drive

I’ve been re-watching Star Trek Voyager and noticed something interesting in season 1 episode 6: Eye of the Needle. When Tuvok hands over a device containing personal messages from the crew of the Voyager to the Romulan Dr. Telek R’Mor, it looks a lot like a USB thumb drive. The interesting thing? This episode was released on February 20, 1995. The first thumb drive didn’t appear until 2000.
