Product Focus: Blackhorse Lane Denim Atelier’s NW3 Straight Fit

Blackhorse Lane Denim Atelier’s heritage straight fit, the NW3 is, at first glance, just that: a classic straight fit jean.
Made from a Turkish 14.oz red-line selvedge denim from Orta Mills, it’s a great jean for the milder months. It features a straight top block, high waist and a very slight taper towards the leg opening.
I picked up my pair during my visit to the Blackhorse Lane atelier in London and despite this type of jean not being my go-to fit, I fell in love with them quite quickly.
They are a snug fitting jean, despite being their loosest fit, but then again I do have quite big thighs so this is an issue I have to contend with when trying on most pairs of jeans.
The real magic of these jeans lies under the hood: each seam is felled inside, leading to a really clean finish and the hidden rivets on the back pockets lend well to the heritage look of this product. In addition to this, they feature a one piece fly and a bold arcuate on the back based on the building they sew in!

Final Word
This pair does break from the usual loose fitting styles I choose, so it will take some wearing in and getting used to but I look forward to seeing some wonderful contrasts developing in the indigo as the white-cast weft begins to show through.
Ultimately, if I could make any alterations to the fit, it would be an additional button in the fly as the gaps between are quite big and result it some awkward bending in the crotch region. Additionally, for such a high waisted model, the top block could be brought in a little to minimise gaping at the back when not wearing a belt. This last one is probably just a limitation of my own body shape though and nothing that can’t be fixed with some custom alteration.
