#WorldWide100Challenge — Portugal — 31/100

After taking a week off from the #WorldWide100Challenge in our different social networks, we’re so happy to be back. The lucky person who is going to share with us her story in the UK after this little break is Rita. Rita come from Portugal some years ago with the aim of studying her degree in the country, she’s really enjoying the experience and for this reason, she has written this blog entry for us:

“Hey! I’m Rita, 21 years old and I am originally from Portugal, but I’ve been living in the UK for 3 years now. I’m studying BSc Criminal Psychology at Coventry University.

When I first arrived, everything was new and different from what I was used to in Portugal and for that reason, everything was exciting.

One of the things I like the most in the UK is the diversity of nationalities and cultures one can encounter every day, making me feel more comfortable and welcomed.

Another big difference that I’ve noticed was that being part of the LGBTQ+ Community, I had the chance to go to Birmingham Pride last year, but more than that, my experience is that you can be your true self and no one will really care! British people keep their lives to themselves and I love that! Plus, there is at least one gay bar everywhere.

In the UK, the flights for other parts of the world are way cheaper than travelling from Portugal and that for me is a big plus as I love to travel!

Food-wise, I struggled at the beginning as the food culture is completely different but now, I cannot live without a Jacket Potato (that I never had eaten before coming to the UK, as it is a traditional dish) and without a meal deal (this is as simple as a sandwich+ crisps+ drink), and I do feel very British whenever I eat one of these!

Every time I go back home, there is always someone who asks if I am enjoying living and studying abroad and if I could go back in time, if I would do it again. My answer is always the same, I am loving it and I would do it all over again. I recommend this experience to everyone who is up for an adventure, and I promise you won’t regret it!”
