2022 was a complex and challenging year for many. Despite negative market sentiments and multiple challenges across the landscape, we are grateful to have achieved great results for the year with countless deployments and ecosystem growth. We continued to focus on building and enhancing our developer and user experience on the chain through our consistent ecosystem and infrastructure development.

This year, we made significant strides toward true interoperability and maximized performance. We have grown a dedicated global community of over 73k, 194 new projects integrations, and partnering with leading projects such as Tether (USDT), Unstoppable Domains, Ledger, Nansen, and XEN amongst many others. Adoption soared, with holding addresses topping 3 million. We have also made 5 upgrades and enhancements to our chain, such as IBC protocol integration, Gas Back initiative, EVM to Cosmos transfers, Liquid Staking, Wasm (testnet). Here is our 2022 in review.

OKC Ecosystem in 2022

Key Statistics

  • 194 new project integrations spanning DeFi, GameFi, NFTs and Web3
  • 131+ million transactions on-chain and counting
  • Over 16 million blocks have been created
  • 102+ million total addresses

Ecosystem Progress

Strong partnerships and integrations are critical for the long-term success of any L1 network. The OKC ecosystem prioritized building out a full suite of features in 2021 that enabled over 100 projects to launch on OKC. Some notable partnerships include Tether (USDT), Unstoppable Domains, Ledger, Nansen, and XEN.

We participated in 13 events:

  • YGGSEA Exclusive Launch Party
  • Plug and Play APAC
  • Play2Earn Bangkok
  • ETHCC
  • Coinfest Asia
  • SmartCon 2022 by Chainlink
  • Token2049 Singapore 2022
  • Crypto Meetup TH
  • Vietnam Blockchain Summit
  • ETH DevCon Bogota
  • ETHVietnam
  • Web3 Fest
  • Taipei Blockchain Week

Dev docs revamp: our core dev team has worked on our dev docs and hub to enhance and provide a seamless and smooth experience to build on OKC, starting with simplified dev docs.

Chain & Product Progress

Chain Upgrade

With our focus on multi-chain interoperability as a key to the future of the blockchain and maximized performance, OKC is one of the fastest and most affordable blockchains on the market. Being completely open-source and fully EVM compatible L1 built on Cosmos, in 2022, the primary transfer transaction speed of OKC reached 5000+ TPS. That is also battle-tested, which brings a smooth user experience to communities, especially so for GameFi communities.

In September, we implemented the IBC protocol and opened up the bridge between OKC and other chains that support the IBC protocol, allowing users to transfer assets between OKC and other chains more efficiently. In just a few months, 8 IBC integrations have been made, such as Osmosis, Cosmos Hub, Kujira, Alexar, Comdex, Stargaze, AseetMantle and Chihuahua.

OKC Swap

Highlights

  • Safe and stable swap
  • Low slippage

OKC Swap is an official DEX, backed by OKX, which provides safety and stable swaps with low slippage. Low swap slippage is important for traders and investors because it helps them to make more accurate investments and minimize their risks by helping them avoid unexpected price changes. Low swap slippage is important for a healthy and efficient market, as it ensures that everyone is able to buy and sell assets at the price they expect. This further reinforces OKC’s commitment to building a better chain for both users and projects.

Gas Back Initiative

Highlight

  • Developers and projects can receive gas back from deploying contracts

To further encourage the development of the dApp ecosystem on OKC, in November, we launched the Gas Back initiative. Gas Back is a new function added to OKC, which supports the proportional distribution of handling fees between block producers and contract deployers. The handling fee for calling a contract is distributed proportionally to the deployer of the contract.

Liquid Staking

Highlights

  • Earn up to 40% APR with OKT
  • Making staking OKT accessible to everyone on OKC

Liquid staking is a great way for users to earn rewards while still being able to access and use their digital assets. It offers a greater level of security and flexibility, making it an attractive option for those who are looking to maximize their profits in a short period of time. In December, we launched liquid staking protocol, where users can stake their OKTs and get stOKT (staked OKT), which allows OKT holders to maximize the utility of OKT by providing access to DeFi protocols while allowing holders to earn the same staking rewards simultaneously.

Overall, these are just a few critical updates from across the OKC developer ecosystem. We launched new documentation, continued to improve examples/tutorials, and built out comprehensive dev tooling for use in a variety of applications, such as OKC Oracle, OKC Subgraph, OKC Safe (multisig) and more. It will take us a long time to fulfill our mission, but 2022 was certainly a year to be proud of. Let’s look forward to where we’ll go next year and celebrate our progress this year.

What’s for 2023?

As the blockchain industry continues to grow, the demand for skilled developers is growing as well. To meet this demand, in 2023 we will work on a comprehensive growth for developers community on OKC.

In order to make it happen, we will continue to focus on providing developers with the necessary tools, resources and tech support to help them integrate applications on OKC with ease.

In addition, we will also focus on creating a culture that encourages learning, innovation, and collaboration among developers. This will include setting up hackathons and other events, such as offline dev meet-ups, key conference sponsorships to promote collaboration and networking, as well as offering incentives for developers who demonstrate a commitment to learning new technologies.

Additionally, we will work on building partnerships with accelerators to help developers move forward with their project to the next level.

By creating a comprehensive growth plan for developers, we can ensure that we have the skilled talent to meet the needs of our ecosystem and the industry as a whole.
