Great Views and Trail Magic

After a good night’s sleep, the trail offered us some beautiful views and thanks to some other hikers, we were able to get a picture with both Ed and I.

We hiked down the mountain and into the town of Duncannon. Duncannon is a very friendly town, especially towards hikers. Almost everyone we passed said hello and wished us a good hike, and we even ran into our first case of Trail Magic. One of the local businesses was sponsoring a neighborhood cookout. As we walked by, they flagged us down and fed us, as well as every other hiker that came by.

After a tasty meal there, we headed out of Duncannon and across the Susquehanna River to meet our sister Anita who was kind enough to bring us supplies so we didn’t need to carry more food than necessary.

With about 8 more miles and another mountain to climb we moved on. Once we got to the mountain top we hiked along the ridge line and into some rocky terrain.

Eventually the trail conditions got better and when we were about 3 miles from the shelter, we came across our second trail magic. Four friends that hiked from Georgia to Maine last year set up a grill and had a cooler of drinks and were feeding any hiker that came by.

Trail Magic is a cool thing.

After having another surprise burger we moved on to the shelter totaling 15 miles the day.
