Time with Family

When you only have a day, it is amazing what you can get done. With the bulk of our hiking behind us — we plan on slack packing just under 24 miles tomorrow — we took some time to spend with our family and thank them for their support in the craziness that was the last two weeks.

In the morning, Ed and I drove just north of here to check out a place for him and his wife Lisa to go kayaking. On our way back we saw a couple of hikers heading north to the trail head at Swatara Gap. They gladly accepted a ride to the trail, and we were happy to payback a little of the kindness that was shown to us.

After Returning to Lynn’s, we got down to business. I got the ridding mower and weed wacker both running, and took care of the lawn, while Ed helped Lynn’s son Lee dispose of the old deck that they are replacing on the back of the house. After three loads to the landfill, we cleaned up and took Lynn, Anita, and Lee out to dinner.

Following dinner, we took a ride to the National Veterans Cemetery at Fort Indiantown Gap, where our parents, Lynn’s Husband, and many family and friends are laid to rest.

After a few somber moments, we were telling happier family stories and remembering the good times. Home for desert, more stories, a board game, more stories, and it’s off to bed for a good night’s sleep
