The San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama broke a bunch of records in his rookie season.

For instance, he’s the NBA’s youngest player to record 40 points and 20 rebounds in a game.

Additionally, he’s the only player in NBA history to record over 1500 points, 250 assists, 250 blocks and 100 made three-pointers in a season.

And because of these achievements, the Los Angeles Lakers D’Angelo Russell thinks Wemby should’ve won more awards than the one -Rookie of the Year- he got.

Russell was on the Run Your Race show and (jokingly) said Wembanyama should’ve won every award.

“I told [people] he should’ve been Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player, Most Improved, All-NBA, MVP, like for real.”

The hosts and Russell then talked about why Wemby should’ve won Defensive Player of the Year.

They said everyone was scared of the “Alien” and did all they could to avoid his long reach and -most likely- denial.

“One-on-five fastbreak -they were shooting the jumpers.”

Last season, Wemby averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks and 1.2 steals.

Despite the fantastic stat line, the Spurs only won 22 games because head coach Gregg Popovich let Wembanyama experiment to find his footing.

The Spurs, however, are looking to switch things up next season and make a playoff push.

They’ve signed point god Chris Paul to mentor the young team and to guide them to and in the playoffs (Paul has a history of leading young teams to the post-season).

Will They Go Far Next Season?

Kendrick Perkins believes Wemby, when it’s “all said and done,” will have three championships on his shelf.

“I believe he will win three championships when it’s all said and done. It’s not going to be easy though. He’s still going to share a league with Jayson Tatum, Anthony Edwards, Ja Morant and these young bulls that are coming for the same goal… If healthy, he’s going to win three championships.”

Will his collection start next season? Probably not. But I think it will serve as a great stepping stone for him.

How do you think the Spurs will do next season?
