Malachi Flynn is heading to San Antonio.

It was recently reported that the point guard has agreed to a one-year deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported the news on Wednesday.

How Will Flynn Help The Spurs?

Flynn, who was drafted by the Toronto Raptors in 2020, will round out the Spurs backcourt and back up Chris Paul (who the Spurs also signed this offseason) and Tre Jones.

He’ll be big when the team needs scoring, playmaking and/or hustle and energy because he’s an energetic player who can create his own shots and get to the line.

He also plays hard every possession, much like his former mentors, Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet.

Where Was Flynn Last Season?

The San Diego State product spent last season playing in Toronto, New York and Detroit.

He was part of the deal that sent OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa to the Knicks in exchange for RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley.

Then, a couple of months after that trade, he was sent to Detroit with Ryan Arcidiacono, Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes for Bojan Bogdanović and Alec Burks.

In Detroit, he had the best game of his career.

He scored a career-high 50 points on 72 percent shooting (off the bench I might add) in a 121–113 loss against the Atlanta Hawks.

Flynn also grabbed 6 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and recorded 3 steals in this game.

Last season, the 26-year-old played just under 13 minutes a game and averaged 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

Hopefully, playing under Gregg Popovich and alongside Chris Paul will help the fifth-year guard hit his stride, bringing out his full potential.

What do you think about this acquisition? Will Flynn be helpful to the Spurs? And how will he help out San Antonio?
