Chicago-based funk/soul outfit Bassel & The Supernaturals are set to release their third studio album, Smoke & Mirrors, on April 17, which is also Syrian Independence Day. The band will be donating 20% of all preorders to support refugees impacted by COVID-19 through Karam Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund.

Bassel & The Supernaturals made big waves in 2017, when the released their debut album, Elements, accumulating vast media acclaim and landing them a slot at SXSW, followed by signing a distribution agreement with Six Degrees Records.

Since then, the band has performed more than 300 shows, including SXSW, The John F. Kennedy Center, Summerfest, and Millennium Park, along with sharing the stage with Youssou N’Dour, Brother Ali, Aesop Rock, Emancipator, The Dandy Warhols, and Sinkane.

The band, a nine-piece neo-soul/funk outfit, is fronted by Syrian-American Bassel Almadani. The band’s sound blends elements of R&B, jazz, and electrifying funk. Lyrics cover topics like love, loss, and war in Syria, a conflict touching the lives of 12,000,000, including the family of Bassel Almadani, the band’s founder.

Encompassing nine-tracks, Smoke & Mirrors starts off with “Calculated Love,” opening on searing jazz colors flowing into a funky groove topped by bright brass accents…
