PREMIERE: Rory D’Lasnow Releases Moving “An American Lie”
Singer-songwriter Rory D’Lasnow confronts the pervasive illusion inherent in the words ‘liberty, justice and equality for all’ on his new single/music video “An American Lie,” which drops tomorrow, July 31.
“We the people are responsible for standing up to speak out when we see wrongs done to our fellow man, and to help make them right whenever we can,” Rory says, “so we protest, we become activists. But then, once the public outrage subsides, the same targeting, abuse of power, and negligence in response — which has been going on for centuries — quickly returns; to a collective shrug from the general public.”
Inspired by the escalating hostility and brutality against people of color in America, the song highlights the expanding gulf between reality and the rose-tinted glasses of rhetorical idealism. After two years of sharing the stage with national artists on the East Coast, performing at renowned venues and big festivals, Rory entered quarantine like everyone else. While there, he began working on new music for his EP, when the Black Lives Matter movement caught his attention. Moved by what he saw, he determined to give his music and its message to the effort of rectifying blatant discrimination.
