Television and Film Star Siena Goines: Playlist for Quarantine
‘Casting the Net’ star Siena Goines shares what she’s listening to during quarantine.
Television and film star Siena Goines (pronounced “go-i-nay”) is talented, intelligent, compassionate, well-read, articulate, and beautiful. From the outside looking in, she’s got it made. Most people probably assume she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and waltzed through life without a care in the world.
In Siena’s case, such a supposition couldn’t be further from the truth. As Aesop wrote, “Appearances are often deceiving.”
Siena and her mother, an addict, lived in low income housing, referred to as “Section 8 housing,” amidst intense poverty. Siena often went to bed hungry. In an interview with the Times-Herald’s Richard Freedman, Siena explained, “Uh, I didn’t even have a bed until I was 4. It was so weird. I felt trapped and there wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it.”
At the age of six, her mother left the East Coast, moving to California. At school she didn’t fit because she was the sole bi-racial student, intimidated daily until she was a sophomore in high school. As you would expect, she didn’t like school. She became street smart, learning how to survive.
