Conversation with DELAC and Superintendent Carvalho

Attention parents of LAUSD students! Support parent leadership!
Join us for a special meeting with Superintendent Carvalho requested by DELAC (LAUSD’s District English Learner Advisory Committee) for a discussion about parent involvement throughout the district.
This meeting is open to the public and will be held in person at the LAUSD Parent and Community Services (PCS) Office on MONDAY, MAY 1, 2023, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm at 1360 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles CA 90026 and virtually via Zoom (link below).
DELAC members made the following motion on March 9, 2023:
“We ask that Superintendent Alberto Carvalho provide responses to comments and proposals for parent participation, involvement and leadership in the next 15 days and be present at the next DELAC meeting.”

However, administrators from the Office of Student, Family and Community Engagement (formerly known as PCS: Parent and Community Services) changed the subject matter of the meeting in their communication to DELAC members as follows:
“A friendly reminder, the Conversation with DELAC and Superintendent Carvalho is scheduled on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During this time, there will be a Question-and-Answer session where members will have the opportunity to ask questions related to English Learner students, the strategic plan and supports for English learners.”
Committee member parents requested a discussion regarding “parent participation, involvement and leadership”, not regarding “English learner students” or “the strategic plan”.
The meeting will be moderated by Lydia Acosta Stephens, Executive Director of LAUSD’s Multilingual and Multicultural Education Department (Agenda).
