Planning permission is granted!

It took over 4 months but the wait is over. We’re hugely relieved and very excited to have been granted planning permission.

Without planning you are stuck. We can’t progress designs or engineering drawings, no contractor will provide a quote as planning might deny or make you change things. You can’t even get a mortgage without this in place.

Our permission document has a number of conditions which need discharging before we start but all look sensible. It is also good to see a focus on ensuring a low environmental impact in the conditions.

The discharge conditions do seem to make parts of the application process redundant. For example, we have had various ground surveys done, but a discharge condition is to have an engineer design foundations based on suitable ground investigation. So it feels like the planners could focus the initial application on the design and sustainability conditions. Then matters such as engineering, ecological impact and drainage could go into the discharge conditions.

Thrilled to have this through and looking forward to building!
