In doing some research on various ways to create a successful 3D printed glasses hinge design, I have found a snap-in hinge design that functions quite well, to replicate for the glasses for the Build Your Vision project.

This design utilizes a small cylindrical bar suspended on the glasses face.

The snap-in connector piece is located on the glasses temples. By rounding off the corners of the snap in piece, it fits in easily onto the face connector piece.

The 3D printed hinge prototypes show how the design ensures the hinge can open and shut, without continuing to swivel past 90° on the outside of the hinge.

The results have been a pair of glasses that can open and close with ease. Furthermore, this hinge design allows for interchanging temple and face pieces as needed (the pieces snap on and off), to allow for customization.

The next challenge will be to customize the print settings on the glasses to maximize a smooth finish on the print, in order to minimize post-processing.
