You can feel it in the air, and smell it in the Pumpkin Spice Lattes — fall is here. We’ve got three tips to maximize the coziness of Autumn in your home.

1. Bring the colors of the outdoors inside

As the leaves change color outside your window, natural palettes like burgundy, emerald green, and walnut brown create a warm and inviting space indoors. Our crush color this season is Rust, a vibrant earthy hue that is calming without being sleepy. Experts say that earth tones can even have a positive effect on mental health.

The Breuer Sofa in Rust makes a statement with the Grace Accent Chair and the Rhone Floor Lamp in this room designed by Haley McKinley of McKith Interiors.

2. Fill your home with cozy textures

Make your furniture as comfy as your favorite sweater. Bouclé, a plush European fabric made of curled fibers, is a premium textile in the design world for everything from couches to Chanel. Its fleece-like texture is as visually interesting as it is soft to the touch. Bonus points for being a heavy enough material to aid in acoustic absorption, meaning that you can curl up undisturbed in front of the fireplace.

We also recommend swapping out thin rugs for plush floor coverings. High pile rugs made of materials like wool and cotton not only protect your feet from the cold as temperatures drop, they are also a great way to add texture to a room.

3. Accents are everything

The Jack-o-Lantern on your doorstep doesn’t have to be your only decoration this season. When adding Autumnal accents to your home, ditch the kitschy plastic garlands and instead opt for natural materials like ceramic, linen, and butter (just kidding about the last one, although a flakey croissant looks good any time of year). We love ceramic mugs and dining ware from our local artist partner Danielle Hutchens, whose artwork is available to our Los Angeles community.

Beautiful ceramics, natural linens, and a floral centerpiece make for the perfect fall breakfast around the Pepin Dining Table. Yang Dining Chairs complete the set.

It’s also time to bring out the throw blankets for chill evenings in after the sun sets at 5PM. Stock up on decorative pillows in those earth tones we love so much. Finally, nothing is a better reminder of the season than the rich colors of fresh flowers. Chrysanthemums and dahlias are having their moment, but don’t overlook the added texture of brush and branches. Red, orange, and gold flowers are beautifully complemented by green leaves and purple berries. Dried bundles are perfect for fall weather, and can last the whole season.

Is there any reason not to take a seat on the Athena Sectional, snuggle under a blanket, and read a good book? We couldn’t think of one either. The Salgado Coffee Table and Tyler Side Table add to the fall charm.

There’s a lot to love about this season — holidays around the corner, the year winding down. Trees vibrant with red, orange, and yellow. The crunch of leaves on the ground, the sweet smells from every store. With these tips, you’re prepared to embrace the brilliance of fall, both indoors and out.
