The most expensive locations to go for spring break
I talk all the time about getting great deals, making your money stretch and work for you. Sometimes it’s good to show you where to avoid problems. I’ve had wealthy friends in the past where money is no worry, and it’s interesting to see how their mindset about money is just so different.
At the same time, they aren’t always aware of the tinier bank accounts of their comrades. In that case, you want to make sure you don’t get caught up agreeing to hit up a spot for spring break that may actually literally break your piggy bank into a zillion pieces.
Investopedia (interesting, an investor site for stocks and stuff) put together a list of the most expensive places to go during spring break…
- Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
- Harbor Island, Bahamas
- Riviera Maya, Mexico
- San Francisco, California
- Costa Rica
- Colorado Mountains (to ski)
Costa Rica is an interesting one as there are places there that are pretty affordable spots, the kicker is hitting the non-tourist-y spots. Those spots can get into the thousands, but there are many beautiful spots away from those areas that are prime for getting a deal.
Mexico has some great beaches that are popular and affordable, including Playa del Carmen and of course Cancun. Just make sure you don’t get talked into these 2.
San Francisco is a tempting location but is very expensive and of course if you go skiing, be prepared to shell out a couple thousand….
Experiences are a key part of life, if you can swing some of these, at a young age, it can be worth the experience. If you’re a young professional millennial and it’s your last $1000, maybe think a little deeper about it. Try someplace a little cheaper where you can get a similar experience.
When you’re in your 20’s, you should be experiencing great places and seeing new things, but blowing all your savings for a 5 day trip isn’t the smartest, and I’m all about living it up!!
