Jerry Olson wins 2021 Parlin Award
OZ founding partner recognized for his leadership in the marketing field
The American Marketing Association (AMA) has named Olson Zaltman’s founding partner, Dr. Jerry Olson, winner of the 2021 Charles Coolidge Parlin Marketing Research Award.
The Parlin Award, established in 1945 by the Wharton School and the Philadelphia Chapter of the AMA, is presented to leading scholars and practitioners who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and sustained impact on advancing the evolving profession of market research.
(Olson Zaltman’s other co-founder, Dr. Gerald Zaltman, was the 2019 Parlin Award winner.)
Jerry joined fellow 2021 Parlin winner Douglas Holt (Founder of Cultural Strategy group and former L’Oreal Chair of Marketing at Oxford) and 2020 winner J. Walker Smith (Chief Knowledge Officer at Kantar Research) at an AMA webinar to discuss current trends in market research and how research will affect the future of marketing.
In addition to his role at Olson Zaltman, Jerry was Earl P. Strong Professor of Marketing and Department Chair at Penn State University where he taught consumer behavior at all levels. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Copenhagen, the University of Innsbruck in Austria and Canterbury University in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Jerry has published more than 60 papers in academic journals and conference proceedings, including Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Applied Psychology, and International Journal of Research in Marketing. He is author of Consumer Behavior and Marketing Strategy, a popular textbook in its ninth edition, and he has edited four other books, including Understanding Consumer Decision Making. He is past president of the Association for Consumer Research.
