Jordan Fried, Head of Business Development at Hashgraph, speaking about the Gossip protocol.

The Olympus team had an exciting week in New York, and the night before attending Consensys Invest, they hosted a packed event with Hashgraph in the heart of Manhattan. Investors, developers, and blockchain enthusiasts alike gathered in a room to learn about what Hashgraph does and how they are planning to revolutionize the blockchain space.

Jordan Fried, Head of Business Development at Hashgraph, talked about how Hashgraph is a unique data structure and consensus algorithm that is fast, secure, and fair. He pointed out several inefficiencies with Proof of Work that Bitcoin and Ethereum is plagued with. Problems such as low transactions per second and vulnerabilities to DDoS attacks are eliminated using a Direct Acyclic Graph (DAG) like Hashgraph.

Gossip about Gossip

Hashgraph goes one step deeper than a DAG does, with their unique process, “Gossip about Gossip.” According to Jordan, “Gossip is calling any random node and telling that node everything you know, that it does not know. Gossip about Gossip refers to attaching a small additional amount of information to this Gossip/transaction payload, which are two hashes containing the last two people talked to (hence, gossiping about the information gossiped). Using this information, a Hashgraph can be built and constantly updated as more information is gossiped by each node.”

Olympus enjoyed speaking to Hashgraph and all the attendees about the future of blockchain technology, and we look forward to maintaining a relationship with Hashgraph.
