I designed a Shazam like app that identifies dog breeds based on their bark sound. UI inspiration taken from Fashikun Oluwafemi

Design Tools: Sketch, Adobe Photoshop

User Story

My friend, Dana and I were walking in Dundas Square in Toronto on one day and were discussing the idea of what pet she would like to adopt to live with her. Dana is an athlete that likes to jog and run a lot and always asks her friends to join her for runs every day. The only problem is that most of the people she asks don’t like to do sports and if they did, they don’t run at the same time she likes to run. Therefore, Dana decided in the end to get a dog as a first pet. But as she was new to having pets, she didn’t know what breed would she like to get that would match her lifestyle as well. While we were walking, she heard a dog bark from a couple of steps away and looked over to his direction. Dana really liked the look of the dog and asked his owner what his breed was and he said it was a Husky. The owner then told us more about which dogs are highly active and could survive the harsh weathers of Toronto. Since Dana doesn’t know a lot about identifying dogs from their looks, she asked me if there was a way to help her identify dog breeds from their sound. The idea then came to my head about listening to dogs barking sound to tell us about their types like how Shazam identifies the song from the sound of music.

Since Dana wears a smart watch all the time, I thought that the mobile app would be more user friendly and convenient if there was a version of it on her watch. It would be much faster to open the app from her watch and not get the phone out of her pocket and unlock it until she reaches the app. Therefore, I have made designs for a smart watch app that would be more suitable to anyone who wears one and would like to be fast in identifying the breed of the dog passing by.
