Taking Tower Defense from Rare to Legendary!

We launched our Play-to-Mint version of our upcoming game, Omega Royale, on Sept 12th 2022, so it’s been a bit over a month now since the game was launched, and while we are still running the event our early results show great promise when it comes to the data.

Before we get into the metrics themselves, some backstory about why we published the web-based Play-to-Mint game in the first place. As we’ve posted before on Medium the game we are building is the worlds first Battle Royale Tower Defense game. This game will be available on iOS and Android, and we are launching an alpha version of it early next year.

But before we can get to that alpha we want to build our community, so that we can engange with our fans and get early feedback on upcoming features and mechanics. For this purpose we decided to launch a standalone single player web-based game, to show to our fans a bit of the vision that we are building, and to give them something to play while waiting for the final game, while we at the same time get a chance to test our backend services and validate that everything runs as it should.

Before we launched the Play-to-Mint version our internal goal was to drive players first to our game and after that get them to join our Discord channel as well as our other social accounts. We had already had a test launch earlier this year which had given us the initial boost to our accounts, so we set the goal to 4x our Discord users. At the time of writing we are now about half way through our campaign, and at this time we have already grown our Discord user base 5x, so off to a great start there!

Most important to all games is though how fun they are, and while you cannot really measure how fun a game is, you can measure how much players play and how long they stay engaged. As the game is purely a standalone product with no meta game where players can grind to become better, we didn’t really set any goals when it comes to retention metrics, only thinking that as long as we show decent D1 and D3 retention we’d be happy.

Now that enough time has passed for us to have data on the retention metrics we’re happy to see that our engagement is already pretty good, our D1 retention comes in at just under 60% and our long term retention also looks really good, with D30 being 16%. Our users also play a lot of games, on average they play around 20 games per day, with each game lasting anywhere from a minute to ten minutes depending on how well you do. We’re really excited about these early results. We think we have only just scraped at the surface of what the game can offer, with the coming battle royal game along with a full meta game offering so much more for our players.

TL;DR

  1. D1 retention 60%, D30 16%
  2. Discord user base 5x
  3. 20 games per user per day
  4. Play our game here: web.omegaroyale.com
