The field trips are a great chance for the dogs to get some exercise outside the shelter while becoming adjusted to an outdoor lifestyle. Meanwhile, you get to explore the beautiful beaches or go on a breathtaking hike together.
After you’re matched with a pup at the shelter, they’re dressed in a flashy ‘adopt me’ vest, so if anyone on the island falls in love at first sight, they can start the adoption process—it’s a win-win-win for you, the shelter and the dogs!
And if you happen to fall in love with your puppy pal while you’re vacationing together, the humane society will help you with the adoption process and travel arrangements to get your new best friend home with you safely — the shelter says this actually happens more than you think, with about four dogs adopted through the field trip program each month.
