Artificial Intelligence is a hot topic. But do you know what has been a hot topic for a really, really long time?

Love.

Considering that practically everyone’s obsessed with A.I. making human lives easier, it makes sense to apply it to dating. After all, doesn’t your thumb get tired swiping left all the time?! Check out this article on how to deal with texting-thumb pain.

In 2016, Bernie AI was launched. It was a personal matchmaking assistant, meant to automate the inconvenient parts of online dating. Bernie was, essentially, a bot version of you — similar to how Consumer Bot operates. It worked on Tinder and Happn, learned what you found physically attractive and searched for your ideal mate.

Now, however, a somber message is blazoned across the Bernie AI homepage: “Bernie A.I. received a notice from Tinder, our users’ primary dating network, asking us to shut down the mobile app immediately.”

And guess what. Now, Tinder is utilizing A.I. You’re probably familiar with the Super Like feature? Late last year, they launched a feature called, “Super Likeable,” where their A.I. provides you with four matches they think you’re likely to like a super amount. Convenient.

In China, the chief executive of popular dating app Tantan, Yu Wang, announced in July that A.I. was to be a primary focus as the company continued onward and upward.

“Five years from now instead of scrolling, searching, swiping, I think these devices will be intelligent enough to just give you the answer.” — Sean Rad, back in 2016

BELONG, a dating app that uses AI and ML to curate matches and suggest social events for you, launched on August 17, 2017. VIOLA.AI, a dating and relationship service, takes it even a step further, though — and utilizes AI and blockchain. Cue ooh’s and ahh’s. According to their Head of PR, VIOLA stays and evolves with you throughout the whole process, from dating to post-marriage. Because isn’t getting your marriage registered on the blockchain through a Smart Marriage Contract the MOST ROMANTIC THING YOU’VE EVER HEARD OF IN YOUR WHOLE LIFE? Ha.

Perhaps as A.I. continues to be utilized in the world of dating, the amount of heartbreak will go down. After all, there’ll be no need for those painful years of youth (or not-so-youth) filled with trial and error! A.I. might be able to tell you to avoid that older man with the really nice sports car because he’ll only ghost you in the end, and wouldn’t that be great? Yes, it would. Or maybe A.I. will match you with your soulmate before that even happens so you won’t even have to go through that rubbish in the first place.

If you only clicked on this article because you thought it was actually about dating A.I., then check out this guy’s book I stumbled across on Amazon. It might have some answers for you.

In the meantime, happy swiping!
