Blockchain technology is evolving rapidly and Omnitude must constantly evaluate all changes or improvements to determine their impact on its architecture and development. In that regard we are in the midst of a full review to ensure we continue to stay abreast of the latest developments and incorporate new techniques and capabilities.
This review process is still under way, but several important trends and exciting opportunities are already apparent. We will discuss each of these in more detail over the coming weeks, but want to start to evangelise some of the high level definitions and strategies we will be utilising.
Hyperledger Fabric 1.0+ has changed and improved considerably since the initial 0.6 release. There are many more capabilities in place now and soon to be released to allow great flexibility in network design, smart contract access and deployment, and security and identification of peers, organisations, and users. The introduction of channels allows segmentation of ledgers where appropriate.
A very important development is the new Hyperledger Indy project. This is the open source contribution from the Sovrin foundation, a self-Sovrin identity management blockchain solution. Omnitude is providing an eCommerce domain specific identity management solution. Sovrin / Indy are providing a generic identity management solution. It seems critical for Omnitude to take advantage of and work well within this Hyperledger Identity Management architecture.
Another just announced Hyperledger project is Quilt. This is an extremely important new project which aims to provide native cryptocurrency interactions. Donated by Ripple, a recently joined new Hyperledger Foundation member, Quilt currently supports Ripple and the Ethereum interface is currently under development. We anticipate many more cryptocurrencies and tokens, including Omnitude ECOM, will soon have Quilt capabilities.
