TL:DR — If you’re a paying Omny Studio customer, you can now check a box to have your podcasts automatically mastered or “levelled out”.

What is Mastering?

Mastering is the final step of audio post-production. The purpose of mastering is to balance sonic elements of a stereo mix and optimize playback across all systems and media formats.

Behind the scenes look at the Omny Studio mastering labs ;)

In simplistic terms, our mastering algorithm “levels out” the wave form of your audio to make the softer sounds just as loud as the louder ones. This means that if a host goes off-mic or whispers, the audio will be lifted in volume to make it easier to hear.

Why do you need to master your podcast?

Here are the two main reasons I can think of as to why you should be mastering your Podcast:

1) To make sure every word of your podcast has the best chance of being heard by boosting your overall volume levels and by decreasing your dynamic range.

2) So that your podcast can compete with other audio mediums such as music. Modern music is mastered as loud as possible to compete with other songs.

Great — how do I do it!?

For Podcasters on our paid plan — it’s as simple as checking the “Auto-level this clip” button and clicking save changes.

Please allow a minute or so for the processing to be applied.
