Free-agent quaterback, Colin Kaepernick has recently become a defiant figure for many NFL fans. After deciding to sit and kneel down during the national anthem last season as a way to quietly protest against police brutality and injustice. Many have said that Kaepernick has been blackballed by the San Francisco 49ers for standing up in such a controversial way. Although Kaepernick remains unsigned, his controversial way of standing up for justice remains alive. As other NFL players from various teams have also taken action against police brutality and injustice. Not only have NFL players supported Kapernick on this stance he is taking, but other celebrities such as Jay-Z, Chris Rock, Stephen Curry, Nick Cannon and many others have shown support. One of the most recent people to have shown his support to Colin has been Nick Cannon as he went out to protest in St. Louis wearing a Colin Kaepernick jersey. Jay-Z recently said, ”I want to dedicate this song to Colin Kaepernick tonight” before he showed his support at a concert and dedicated ”The Story of O.J, a song from his latest album 4:44 that talks about how racism and being black is still a brewing problem in the U.S. Kaepernick’s way of standing up hasn’t always attracted a positive reaction from everyone, as NFL fans, cops and many others have found his methods of protesting disrespectful to our armed men and women fighting for our freedom. Colin has made it clear as he says according to USA Today “I realize that men and women of the military go out and sacrifice their lives and put themselves in harm’s way for my freedom of speech and my freedoms in this country and my freedom to take a seat or take a knee, so I have the utmost respect for them,” that he is not trying to disrespect anyone. As his sole purpose for this is fighting for liberty and justice for all.
