Resilience. Banded around in both personal & commercial circles for some time now, especially since the Covid Pandemic, but what does it take to have it?

Studies linked from Professional Sports People, yet a facet that most of us have called upon recently, also comes into Sales, especially when sales processes are long and elongated.

In fact, the eventual destination of ‘Resilience’ is in fact, Mental Toughness and is linked to studies undertaken from University Professors that not many people are aware of. For instance, did you know that Mental Toughness can now be measured?

Highlighting the prospect of how we are all different and how various pressures affect our ability to cope and perform under stress can be enlightening, either as an individual trying to overcome pressures of life, or as a Business Leader or Sales Professional trying to help your team achieve targets. This also also starts from a process of self-awareness, although that can be the most difficult prospect of all.

The skill and ability to identify what is occurring at any given time, so that you can manage, adapt and possibly control it, has proven to be the most valuable asset for many people undertaking the study, with organisations now following suit for their teams.

We’ve all received the advice to take a break, a step back or even go for a walk when pressure mounts and this is largely linked to how stress causes clouded judgement due to cortisol flooding our brains.

Too much cortisol actually stops us from understanding what is happening, thereby being difficult to control. For example, can you remember a very stressful period or receiving very bad, stressful news and acting out of the ordinary, or not being able to remember what you did next? Most people have had that experience at some point in their lives.

What do you think? Would your thinking and self awareness be strong enough to navigate through your own challenges? Are there members of your Sales & Marketing Teams struggling against internal or external pressures that’s causing low performance or even halts in work-flow?

Getting on top of these issues not only improves results but has also proven to be very effective in Team Building & Team Dynamics …all of which, in turn, builds additional strong performance over time.
