This image is of myself and my sisters sitting together after a family function. Our attire is mostly yellow with a sweet smile on everyone’s face. I am lucky to have them. This is a selfie taken in 2024. — alt text to boost Medium stories.
My World, My Strength — My Sisters ❤️ | Photograph by the Author.

I got off the train after almost a year. The air felt familiar, but something inside me had changed. Maybe it was because I had been away for so long, living in Guwahati, working in a startup. Maybe it was just the way home starts feeling different when you have seen the world outside.

It was late. The Railway Station was almost empty. No autos, no cabs. Nothing.

We do not have a vehicle of our own. No bike, no car. So my papa called my cousin to pick me up.

He came after a while. The moment he spoke, I knew he was drunk. Not completely gone, but enough for me to notice.

Little hesitation... Should I just walk home? But there was no option. So I got on the bike.

We had just started when he asked, “So, Adarsh, when are you getting married?”

I sighed. “Not anytime soon, Bhaiya.”

“What about your sisters?” he asked instantly. “Get them married fast. This is their age. If you wait too long, it will be difficult to find a match. Just do it and be at peace.”

Be at peace.
