Warning: Spoilers Ahoy!

These days, it’s hard to keep track of all the heartbreak, deaths and disappearances on The Walking Dead. We find ourselves left with more questions than answers at the end of episodes more and more.

Questions like:

Who, exactly, is Negan? How is Carl’s depth perception not affected? Can the Saviors all, collectively, eat an entire Hefty bag of dicks? Why has no one put a kiddie leash on Glenn “This is why we can’t have nice things” Rhee to make sure he stays in Alexandria with Maggie “What is Maternity Leave?” Greene?

But no one is asking the most important question of all.

The question sitting right under our noses; staring us in the face.

The question hidden in plain sight.

What the Hell happened to Glenn’s hat?

We are first introduced to Glenn in the pilot, but we don’t meet his hat until episode two.

Now, when I began my exhaustive research into the whereabouts of Glenn’s hat, I thought I was looking for just that- One hat. But, in rewatching and obsessively screncapping every closeup of the top half of Steven Yeun’s head I realized that there were multiple hats, now all missing.

How deep did this hat disappearance phenomenon go?

Jenner would be a terrible Air BnB Host

At the CDC, Glenn sports an all-red number and a very judgmental face- which is pretty understandable if you remember Jenner’s “You can stay here but I’m blowing this Mother sky-high” houseguest caveat. It would be understandable if Glenn’s hat had gone the way of Jacqui but he appeared to have it at the end of the episode.

When the group of Atlanta survivors is introduced to Herschel and his family, Glenn appears to wear a white and blue cap which manages to stick around for a while.

Through pharmacy sex-

Aisle 69, amirite?

And casual egg fights with then not-girlfriend and butt-touching pal Maggie-

To be fair, he was a snitch. He was lucky he got an egg and not stitches.

And then, just like that, the hats disappear.

Is it possible that Glenn had to leave all three of his hats behind when Herschel’s farm was overrun with that walker horde?

Sure. His one hat may have even been too ruined with egg to salvage.

But I can’t shake the sneaking suspicion that there is more at play than simple forgetfulness.

After all, Rick’s Sheriff hat survived- and if no one else will ask, I will.

Is this all a large conspiracy orchestrated by Rick’s hat to keep the spotlight on himself and eradicate all other trademark accessories?

Did AMC quietly do away with Glenn’s hats to make room for Glenn’s new accessory: Concerned Face/Wispy Mustache?

What is the truth, AMC?

With Glenn’s uncertain fate hanging in the balance of next week’s season finale, we may never know what happened to the hats.

But know that I am watching, AMC. And I have not forgotten.
