It’s May 5, and God dropped this blog from the heavens because Lavar Ball just priced Lonzo’s signature shoe at $495. FOUR HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE DOLLARS! FOR A PAIR OF KNOCK OFF KOBE’S! Have you ever seen anything so egregious in your lifetime? As much as Lavar is doing way too much before his son has even been drafted, I can appreciate the ambition behind it. But does he realize how much money he just cost Lonzo by doing this? Ben Simmons’ deal with Nike is five years, $20 million guaranteed and could double to $40 million if he pans out as a stud. And you mean to tell me Adidas, who sponsors UCLA by the way, isn’t willing to pay an excessive premium to make him one of the faces of Adidas basketball along with James Harden and Damien Lillard? On top of that, I can’t imagine Big Baller Brand has any sort of economies of scale whatsoever. They might as well be making these shoes in their own garage. So if they are forced into that price point, maybe you should reconsider whether a multi million dollar deal with proven sports giants and actual branding experts is a better option. Finally, Lavar doubles down and says if you can’t afford them, you’re not a “big baller”…

Nah man, the shoe is just trash.

Got us some good chunes for the weekend here. Gorillaz released their first album in seven years with Humanz and it appears they haven’t skipped a beat. ODESZA bringing a feel good chillwave track leading up to summer. A gem from Allan Kingdom and Kevin Abstract, Fuck My Enemies, rapping/singing over a slick trap beat. Those and more, enjoy!
