Life lessons come in unexpected packages.

Sometimes by chance. Sometimes because we’re ready for them. Sometimes because we are reminded of something we already believed in.

Sometimes, unfortunately, through experiences we’d rather not have had. Or people we’d rather not have met.

As a psychologist I get a front row seat to these lessons. I learn from other people’s experiences, from the things they go through, and the ways they respond to them.

Over the years, I’ve collected them — two books full now — and every now and then I bundle them up and share them.

Sometimes, to help others figure out the craziness of the world we’re living in. And, sometimes, just for a bit of fun.

Here are a dozen of my favourites.

If you like something, do more of it.

It’s the only secret of success that stands the test of time. If you put time and effort into anything, you’ll improve.

As John Lennon said about the Beatles: “We were just a band.” The band kept on playing. Look what happened.

Money buys happiness. Until it doesn’t.
