Do you love your work?

If so, you’re a member of an exclusive club.

For every person who loves their job, there are many more who don’t — they show up because they have to, or they just can’t stand it.

In the course of therapy I’ve met people in all camps. That’s not surprising. Work, in myriad ways, stirs an awful lot of strong feelings, for better and for worse.

But arguably those who struggle most are those who have never found their “thing”, the work they feel they were born to do. Often they are successful in their chosen careers.

But it feels wrong. To paraphrase Stephen Covey, they have their ladders leaning against the wrong walls.

Passion, anyone?

Finding work you are passionate about gets a big rap.

You’ve heard the quotes, the memes:

“Find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” — Mark Twain

“Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.” — Rumi

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” — Steve Jobs
