To Do Your Own Thing, and Be Your Own Person, Begin Here
It might be the start of something great.
You do you.
We’ve all heard that saying ad nauseum. It sounds good in theory, but what does it actually mean?
And how do we go about it in a world that demands that we fit in, entices us to follow the same path as everyone else?
From the time we are born, expectations are laid down. From our parents and families, our communities and cultures, media, social media, society and, of course, our friends.
And — mostly — we buy into them. That’s because the need to be accepted, and approved of, is a natural human drive. Even for those who don’t admit it.
But at some point it’s healthy to question what’s going on. To pick holes in the walls enclosing us — even rage at them. Is this right? Is it fair? the life I want? Is this really who I am?
In the Beginning, It’s a Riot
If you’ve been around little kids you’ll know they often want to choose their own outfits.
If they get the green light, you get this wonderful hotchpotch of colours, clothes and shoes flung together — no-one cares about the mismatch, it’s tagged as kinda adorable.
