In 2013, Trey Longoria performed in Forklift DanceworksPowerUP, a dance featuring the employees and machinery of Austin Energy (AE). Today, Trey — who hails from a family of electric linemen — is a Distribution Electrician Crew Leader at Austin Energy and has been on the job for nearly 18 years. In PowerUP, Trey generously shared one of his off-the-job talents, accompanying his fellow linemen on the accordion in what became one of the audiences’ favorite moments in the show. (See his performance in the video below or learn more about PowerUP here!)

Performing music for an audience of 3,000 people a night was a step outside the box for Trey. Listen to his recent conversation (above) with Forklift choreographer Krissie Marty to hear more about how he remembers that moment, what he learned about his co-workers in the process, and what keeps him going in his job these days.

On the Job: 20 Portraits from 20 Years highlights the work of twenty people who have collaborated and performed with Forklift Danceworks. Featuring new interviews between Forklift choreographers and our collaborators, the series shares the voices and experiences of people whose work sustains our communities.

This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
