It’s interesting to think about what makes a company tick. All companies are unique… sometimes it’s the founders, sometimes it’s a great product, sometimes it’s a fun (crazy!) culture. Regardless, it’s always important to have a rudder… a true north.

Do you know your true north? That thing that keeps your company alive?

There’s a lot of things it could be, but we’ve observed for those companies that go on to be great, it centers around having a strong vision. The reasons listed above are short lived or evolve in the big story of your company. A solid vision is the heart of success in building a company that weathers the storm… and there will be storms… many, many, many storms!

What does it take to create a strong vision? It takes soul searching, it takes talking to people that need what you have to offer, it takes building a culture and team that has a passion to pursue solutions to real problems, it takes a focus on those things that matter most and throwing out everything else, and it takes a commitment and a desire to hold your team accountable to get there.

It’s an enormous challenge to build a great company and team, but you can absolutely get there. We’ve been there and understand the challenges and how to overcome them. In upcoming blog posts, we’ll dive into what it takes to build a solid vision and how to achieve it.

If you’re struggling with your vision and where you want to be in 1, 3 or 5+ years, we’d be happy to talk and see if we can help shape it.
