Letters from an American

By Clara Nafría & Ismael Nafría

Letters from an American” is one of the most popular personal newsletters on the internet. Written by Heather Cox Richardson, a professor of American history at Boston College, it offers a daily article, sent at the end of the day, about the history behind US politics.

“To understand the present, we have to understand how we got here,” says the author in the introduction to her newsletter. According to her, the newsletter “is a chronicle of the current political scene, but since you can’t understand today’s politics without an outline of the Constitution, and the laws, and the economy, and the social customs of the United States, this newsletter explores what it means, and what it has meant, to be American.”

More than 1.4 million people receive “Letters from an American” in their email inboxes. Additionally, since last February, the author has also been offering a podcast of the newsletter with her own narration of the published articles.

She is the author of, among others, the recent book “Democracy Awakening: Notes on the State of America”.
