EAT.
Chuko
These are the wintry months fully determined to steep your bones in mean-spirited frigidity. To remedy this existential soul chill, 4 out of 5 New Yorkers prescribe a big, steaming bowl of ramen, because noodles are good for what ails ya. It’s our personal suggestion that you make a beeline to the Prospect Heights hot spot noodle joint, Chuko, and cozy up to their rich and fragrant tonkotsu (pork bone) ramen noodles loaded with piquant mustard greens, delicate wood ear, and heavenly soft-boiled egg. And don’t forget to ask for the garlic infused chili oil on the side! It’s a piping hot bowl of noodle-y perfection.

DO.
Jerkin’ Around With Ted
Ever been to Alaska? There are more varieties of jerky in The Last Frontier than anywhere on the planet. Texas? A close second. Queens has those pranksters The Jerky Boys. But where is the dried meat mecca in Manhattan? It’s right here in Chelsea Market and you, dear readers, can learn how to make your very own jerky by enrolling in a Jerkin’ Around With Ted class at Dickson’s Farmstand Meats. Ted’ll teach you the basics of slicing venison, beef, elk or caribou grips and then send you off to his marinade bar to create your proprietary custom meat bath. With wine and beer provided as you work, the meat won’t be the only thing marinating. Hilarity is practically guaranteed! And when you’re done, just leave your tub o’ beef with Ted for a few days and he’ll dehydrate your portion into unique Manhattan-Made meaty delights. You won’t believe how unbelievably tasty your jerky can be.

BUY.
Twig
Your poor, desolate office desk. Nothing but a red Swingline and a coffee mug filled with unused Sharpies to adorn it. So bereft of personality, spark, energy & life. Well, no longer! Our favorite Gowanus-based terrarium superstore Twig is offering a clever DIY mini-terrarium housed in a lightbulb. They call it “Their Bright Idea” kit. Just think of how much pep, vim & vigor you’ll get from a delightful micro-forest perched next to your mousepad. And it’s so small and manageable! This is one plant that even you might not kill, you plant-killer, you.
