I Just Reached 1.000 Followers on Medium

Day 146/365: I never even looked for Medium fame…

Saturday morning started as any other Saturday morning. I slept in, then had a fruits bowl with the most amazing mango I’ve ever eaten. It was so riped, so juicy and so fresh, it was as if I were eating a fruit steak!

After that, I opened my laptop and was ready to write just about the mango breakfast, but was amazed when I realised that my Medium followers’ count had gone up over the 1.000 mark.

“Look, mom, I’m famous now!” — Gabriel Iosa, Saturday, May the 26th, 2018

At the beginning of this 365 days writing challenge, I told you that the only purpose of this journey was for me to finish it. Not to gain any money from it, not to be an internet sensation (there are way too many of those out there) but to just finish it and maybe gain some friends in the writing industry.

Reaching the 1K mark

By reaching 1K followers here on the blog, I can say with certainty that I’m doing this thing right. That I’m growing as a writer every day. That people are interested in not only how I write, but also in what I publish. In my ideas, my stories and my sometimes complicated subjects.

And even though I’m confident I sometimes do great, I also know some articles are crap. But that’s also normal because you can’t be amazing 365 days in a year. It’s unnatural. This is why one thought that’s been bothering me for weeks now is about the future of this challenge.

After the 365 days

I am confident now that I can go through with this long challenge. No doubt about that in my mind. If I’m healthy and have an internet connection, it’s easy for me to gather my thoughts, come up with an article and then publish it here every day. It’s almost like a knack now.

The question is what am I going to do after the 365 days? In all honesty, the problem with writing every day is that you have little time to come up with great ideas daily and then expand on them. Which is why for 2019, I’m thinking about a new challenge.

In 2019, I want to publish one article a week, so about 52 articles for the whole year. I want each and every one of those articles to be read by at least 1000 people. I want those articles to matter. I want them shared. I want them fun, innovative, informative. I want some of them to be life-changing.

I want to write stuff that matters. Not just to write stuff, like I do now, even if some of it is quite good. I want every single piece to be exceptional. To be interesting and loved by an array of people. I want comments, disputes, love and hate. I want Medium fame!

I want to implement my journalism background and come up with stories that make a difference. I am ready to do that, after quite a long pause.

2018 is just the warm-up.

2019 will be the year to reach for the stars.
