Why JFK’s Murder Still Matters

We still haven’t learned the history so we can’t understand the lessons. It’s clear that time is running out.

Back in 2013, on the 50th anniversary of the assassination, the level of coverage was significant. Most of it, however, was a tribute to the important historical leadership of John Kennedy and the affection most people still feel for him even after five decades whether or not they were alive when he was murdered. As someone who has done a very deep dive into the JFK murder, I found the massive news and entertainment product that I watched and read to be disturbing.

Immersing myself in the coverage and specials, it became clear that both the political establishment and the mainstream media seemed to have decided that their new meme is that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone after all. At best, when it came to the assassination, they seem to have taken the position that “we’ll just never know.”

This, of course, is still wildly at odds with the common good sense of the American people who, on the 50th anniversary, despite the grinding establishment spin they’ve endured over decades, still believed by a 61% to 30% margin that JFK died as a result of conspiracy over the idea that a deranged lone gunman did the deed.
